I've got a personal philosophy of live sound reinforcement that has worked just fine in situations like this - These large outdoor venues will, no doubt, include large outdoor sound systems, technicians and many electronic racks with winking blinking tiny lights, and lots of mics for drums, amps, vocals.

Have the band set up on stage with their usual club equipment and create a relaxed on stage sound that pleases them. It is now the sound company's job to shoot this sound out to the acres of people using their big equipment.

To believe that a big amp on stage will be pushing the sound out to thousands of people is a misconception, especially in the minds of the musicians performing.

For the big time pro's like Piazza, Hummel,
Musselwhite, Gruenling, etc. who play festivals and concert venues over
acres and thousands of people, then I can see the big amps as a necessity.
